Keynote Speaker - Andrew Fuller
Valuing Girls, Valuing Boys: Responding to the Bully Code/Tactics for Teachers

Andrew Fuller, a clinical psychologist, is a Fellow of the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Learning and Educational Development at the University of Melbourne. He was a principal consultant to the national drug prevention strategy REDI and is currently an Ambassador for Mind Matters and a member of the National Coalition Against Bullying.
Andrew has written a number of books - Tricky Kids, Guerrilla Tactics for Teachers, Help Your Child Succeed at School, Raising Real People (ACER), From Surviving to Thriving (ACER), Work Smarter Not Harder and Beating Bullies. He has co-authored a series of programs for the promotion of resilience and emotional intelligence used in over 3500 schools in Britain and Australia, called THE HEART MASTERS. Andrew has also established programs for the promotion of mental health in schools, substance abuse prevention, and the reduction of violence and bullying, suicide prevention programs and for assisting homeless young people. Andrew continues to counsel young people.
Andrew’s three sessions will provide educators/counsellors with research-based information regarding the culture in schools. He provides practical strategies to support educators to identify and manage the sub-cultures of violence and aggression. Topics covered include:
Valuing Boys, Valuing Girls – exploring the implications of gender difference for schools, ways of enhancing outcomes for boys and girls with an emphasis on the priority areas for girls and boys education. He also examines the implications of school violence and bullying.
Creating Resilient Schools – reviews research on high performing and effective schools. Andrew will assist participants to identify key aspects of their school culture and will outline effective strategies to enhance bullying prevention.
Surviving and Thriving Strategies: a collection of strategies and effective tricks for not just surviving but thriving in the education setting, including how to extract great student outcomes. Andrew will identify ways to recognise and manage student group sub-cultures of bullying and aggression.
