The Student Welfare and Personal Development
Association was established in 1983 (as the Personal Development
Association) to support student welfare and the teaching of
Personal Development in New South Wales schools. It is a
non-denominational organisation to which any interested person
can belong (parents, community workers, teachers, counsellors,
nurses). Personal Development has curriculum status within the
Key Learning Area PD Health PE.
The association aims to
• represent and support the interests of teachers, year
advisors, school counsellors and others who are concerned with
the welfare and personal development of young people in schools
• promote the recognition, study, research and development of
welfare and personal development in schools
• establish and maintain links with other state, national and
international organisations interested in the welfare and
personal development of young people in schools
The committee: meets monthly to help carry out these
aims. Representatives are drawn from infants, primary, secondary
and tertiary educators (in both government and non-government
sectors); consultants; school counsellors; year advisors;
interested parents.
Publications and newsletters: are produced regularly and
distributed to members; workshops and in-service meetings are
arranged throughout the year.
Annual Conference: an important opportunity to exchange
ideas and to enrich resources Copies of the Student Welfare and
Personal Development Association Constitution are available on
request to the Secretary.
Annual Fee: $35 entitles members to publications and to
reduced rates for workshops, courses and annual conference.
Membership is from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
